Authorities have identified the inmate suspected of stabbing rapper Tory Lanez as 42-year-old Santino Casio, a convicted murderer serving a life sentence at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi.
The attack occurred on May 12, 2025, leaving Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Shemuel Shua Peterson, with 14 stab wounds and two collapsed lungs. Casio was convicted in 2004 of second-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, and other violent offenses. While incarcerated, he has faced additional convictions for assaulting fellow inmates and possessing deadly weapons.
Following the incident, Casio has been placed in restricted housing pending an investigation by prison authorities and the Kern County District Attorney’s Office. Lanez is currently serving a 10-year sentence for the 2020 shooting of rapper Megan Thee Stallion. After the stabbing, he was hospitalized and placed on a breathing apparatus.
According to a statement on his Instagram account, he is now breathing on his own and is in stable condition. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation. Prison officials have not released further details at this time.
This is truly great news! It’s such a relief to hear that he’s now breathing on his own and in stable condition. The fact that the motive is still unclear makes me wonder if there’s more to this story than meets the eye. Have the prison officials been keeping things under wraps, or is it just too early to tell? I’m really curious to see how this investigation unfolds—hopefully, we’ll get more updates soon. Also, Tunde Ednut becoming a U.S. citizen is such a big milestone; that dance celebration must’ve been epic! But I couldn’t help but notice the JAMB registrar breaking down—it’s heartbreaking to see so many candidates affected by these glitches. Do you think there’s a way to prevent such issues in the future?
